Our customer is one of the UK’s leading rail manufacturers who are renowned for their focus on safety, innovation, and continuous process improvement.
As part of their commitment to product quality the company continually evaluates new technologies that enhance productivity, increase product quality and protect operators from risk within their production environment.

The current process of preparing aluminium for welding was slow and causing quality issues which then required costly rework, particularly on their larger workpieces.
There were also safety concerns due to the excessive dust and Hand Arm Vibrations (HAVs) generated from grinding processes.
After extensive trials our customer invested in multiple 75mm & 125mm Doubleworker Maija Milling rings for aluminium alongside the corresponding tooling.
After the introduction of Maija Milling Discs process speeds & throughput have been greatly increased. The tooling and discs are now being rolled out to more applications such as flushing down weld runs, digging out welds to test porosity & for bevelling edges.
A bright, ready to weld surface that saved further processing time
No Weld defects & porosity reduced due to the cleanliness in the weld preparation
HAVS reduced significantly due to the very low vibration created during the milling processes.
Airborne and respirable dust have been reduced greatly as the waste is chips and not dust
